Episode 291: Banjo Tooie

Hey, the new episode of the podcast is out! If you want to listen, all you have to do is get a glowbo, give it to mumbo, wait in his house a while as he goes out and stands on a pad to cast the “Ipod” spell, then comes back to sit down. Then you have to split into Banjo and Kazooie, and have Banjo go download it. Then have Kazooie use the “Glide” ability, to get to the play button! Then all you have to do is rejoin them, find another Glowbo, and give it to Humba Wumba so you can transform into a pair of headphones, and you’re good to go! Simple.

Episode 117: Monkey! [Donkey Kong Country]

Seriously, coconuts hurt.  This game, however, guns for fire them even if some vultures may huck them.  Maybe that's where D.K. got the idea?  At any rate, we're going into no country for old monkeys... mostly because they can't stand the music.  Tag team it up with us as we explore the bizarrely segmented island of banana hoarders' dreams!

K. Rool stole our download hoard!

Show Notes

(10:30) VULKRAISER is a lot like Voltron, but not.  99 Spirits isn't the game Tyler thought it was.

(13:30) Wanna shoot and collect stuff Mega Man style?  Mercenary Kings is great!

(16:30) Apparently Star Citizen is stalling.

(20:00) I wonder who "F" was...

(28:00) A Rare history

(32:30) Going over DKC's strengths and general mechanics.

(46:00) Promotions!  Sim City 2000 is now level 3.  Donkey Kong became a Grand Lord.  The Mario Bros. are now a hydra, though I have no idea what item is necessary for that.

Episode 55: Perfect Episode Title [Perfect Dark]

Deadly agents, deadly aliens, deadly weapons, killer music, Elvis; this game has it all.  Except that it was made in an era where dual-analog controllers weren't common.  And it doesn't have a plot.  Except when it does.  Where's the president again?

The Farsight can find our download through the wall of the Internet.

(01:00) The dangers of running a podcast when LoL exists.

(02:00) We talk about Catherine for a bit.  Not to spoil the ending too much, but this one's crazy.  It's a bit odd...

(06:00) Tyler talks about Catherine's karma mechanics, similar to some other game, that happens to be free.

(08:20) WindForge is pretty cool, but hard to look at.  The review, sadly, says it all.

(11:00) Because games, Zach talk about Titanfall.  Our general impression is positive.

(14:00) Geremy never played Goldeneye.  This is blasphemy for our generation.  For those who don't know, this week's game is the spiritual successor to it.

(17:30) Perfect Dark's story.  We don't even.

(21:00) Every weapon has an alternate fire.  Some are... less useful.

(23:40) The proper way to hold an N64 controller.

(27:30) When Good AI goes bad.

(30:45) Goldeneye and Perfect Dark as the progenitors of console-based multiplayer shooters.

(32:00) Our favorite guns, including the Reaper, Super Dragon, and Laptop Gun.

(34:30) Counter-op!

(41:00) That Frontalot song Geremy mentioned.

Episode 46: Talking About the Birds and the Bears [Banjo-Kazooie]

The game that at least one of the hosts considers the epitome of 3D platformers is finally appearing on the podcast!  Grab your backpack of bird holding, and wing flip your way off with us!

Collectibles?  Downloads qualify, right?

(03:00) Super Mario 3D World was a thing we did.

(07:00) Tyler talks about Skyrim for a bit.

(12:00) Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion!  It's an RTS in space where you can zoom from galactic level all the way down to ship-to-ship combat.  It's surprisingly deep, but simple to play.

(16:30) Zach's tales of Mech Warrior: Online.  Same ass kicking occurred.  G-Nome was awesome in the 90s.

(21:30) PC games defaulting to explaining how games work with the 360 controller.

(23:30) Own a Wii U?  This might interest you.

(30:00) Dynasty Warrior 8 is apparently pretty good.  With planes.

(39:30) 3D worlds as scavenger hunts and motivation for exploration.

(48:30) Collectible balance in Banjo-Kazooie.

(52:30) New moves as progress gating.

(60:00) We try to remember what games existed on the N64.  It appears to be mostly racing and, apparently, sports.

(62:00) Sandbox/open world games as a replacement for 3D platformers.
